Maceo Snipes was the only African American to vote on July 17, 1946 in the white primaries in Taylor County Georgia. He was a WWII Veteran who faced segregation while he honorably and courageously served his country in the Pacific Campaign. After returning home to Taylor County GA. Maceo was lynched on July 18, 1946 for exercising his right to vote in during the Governor's race.
He joined the US Army in February 1943, and served in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in September 1945.
